Improving mpox advice, guidance and engagement (IMAGE)

Ongoing
In response to the Clade 1b Mpox outbreak in central Africa, we have developed a rapid qualitative study to help the UKHSA improve public health messages and communication materials in the UK to ensure they are feasible, accessible and acceptable.

Project aims

  1. Understand how people who maybe at higher risk of Clade Ib Mpox — or their families/carers — receive and respond to UKHSA public health messages, especially around vaccination, testing, and prevention, to improve the clarity, accessibility, and effectiveness of UKHSA communications.
  2. Identify what helps or hinders people in following public health messages.
  3. Explore whether higher-risk groups would change their behaviour (e.g. fewer sexual partners, avoiding high-risk places, getting vaccinated) during a clade Ib outbreak, and suggest ways UKHSA can better support these protective actions.

This builds upon previous work reported in HPRU BSE
