We aim to protect the health of the nation in partnership with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
With our partners, MRC BioStatistics Unit at university of Cambridge and University West of England, we focus on research to help reduce infectious diseases. About NIHR Health Protection Research Units (HPRUs)
HPRUs undertake high quality research in partnership with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), to protect the public’s health and minimise the health impact of emergencies.
There are 13 NIHR Health Protection Research Units (HPRUs) across England along with 2 NIHR Health Protection Research Focus Awards (HPRFAs).
Each HPRU or HPRFA is a research partnership between a university and the UKHSA. They undertake research on predefined themes, including antimicrobial resistance, climate change, public threats and hazards, and infectious diseases.
By delivering high-quality collaborative research, HPRUs support UKHSA to protect the health of the public. They enable it to prepare for and respond to health protection incidents, alongside building an evidence base for health protection policy and practice.
